Genesis House of Tea: The Perfect Girls’ Day Out in Chattanooga

Published on
11 August 2024

Looking for a charming spot that combines tea, tasty treats, and a meaningful mission? The Genesis House of Tea, located in the historic Dent House off Bonny Oaks, is one of Chattanooga's most BEAUTIFUL places for a girls' day out, bridal shower, baby shower, or engagement party in chattanooga. This tea house offers a Bridgerton-inspired experience with a side of Kentucky Derby flair, complete with fancy hats you can borrow for your visit!

When you arrive, you'll be greeted by a selection of hats to channel your inner duchess while enjoying the house’s cozy atmosphere. Start your tea experience with my favorite- their “Royal Wedding” tea- or one of their seasonal flavors (like Spiced Peach Apricot with popping boba, Pumpkin Chai, or Caramel Apple Crumble in the fall)! The tea menu is thoughtfully curated, with free refills so you can sip as much as you like!

The food is just as cute as the tea. Indulge in a tiered platter featuring sweet and savory items like buttery scones, delicate sandwiches, and flavorful quiches. These dishes are perfect for sharing and add an elegant touch to your outing. I LOVE THE SCONES! And I never thought I would be a scones girl… but these are GOOD!

Also worth noting, the Genesis House of Tea is more than just a beautiful brunch spot—it’s a place with purpose. Every purchase supports their mission to restore beauty, dignity, and identity to women in crisis through nonprofit partnerships. Upstairs, you’ll find a boutique where proceeds further these initiatives, making your visit not just a treat but an opportunity to give back.

📍 Location: 6178 Adamson Cir., Chattanooga, TN 37416
🕐 Hours: Open 11 AM - 4 PM, closed Wednesday and Sunday

Whether you’re sipping tea with your best friends or celebrating a special occasion, the Genesis House of Tea guarantees a memorable and meaningful experience.

Wardlaw’s Lucky Eye Q, BBQ worth the drive from Chattanooga, cooking up in LaFayette Georgia

If someone asks you where to find the best barbecue near Chattanooga, steer them just south to Wardlaw’s Lucky Eye Q in Lafayette, Georgia. It’s a short drive into Walker County and totally worth the trip, especially for the five-meat sampler and standout ribs, brisket, and grits. Robert Wardlaw, the pitmaster behind it all, has been perfecting these flavors since he was sixteen, and it shows. The place is only open Thursday through Saturday with lunch and dinner hours, so plan accordingly—but once you try it, you’ll know why locals are making the drive.

Where to Find Some of the Best Barbecue Near Chattanooga: Wardlaw’s Lucky Eye Q in Lafayette, GA

If you’re the type of person who’s always on the hunt for good barbecue, you’ll want to add this one to your list—and maybe even mark the calendar so you don’t miss your window. Located just over the state line in Walker County, Georgia, Wardlaw’s Lucky Eye Q is a small-town BBQ gem that serves up big flavor. It’s only open three days a week, but those in the know make the drive for ribs, brisket, and sides worth talking about. The spot is run by Robert Wardlaw, who’s been honing his craft since he was 16 years old, and now shares his slow-cooked recipes with the public. Whether you're a local or visiting Chattanooga, this place is worth the detour.

The Experience

Walking into Lucky Eye Q feels like dropping in on a local favorite—because that’s exactly what it is. The restaurant is located right in downtown Lafayette, Georgia, at 103 N Chattanooga Street. It’s simple and unassuming from the outside, but once you’re inside, the savory smell of smoked meats hits right away. There’s limited seating indoors and a casual vibe that keeps the focus on the food.

Robert Wardlaw is often on-site himself, tending to the smoker and greeting customers. He’s been cooking with the same recipes for years, and the pride really shows in the quality and flavor of his food. His attention to detail sets this place apart from your average roadside BBQ stop.

The five-meat sampler is a favorite because it gives you a little bit of everything. From the smoky ribs to the melt-in-your-mouth brisket, the meats are well-seasoned and cooked just right. The grits have earned their own fan following—creamy, savory, and unlike the usual side offerings at most BBQ spots. Sides like baked beans, collard greens, and mac-and-cheese round out the meal. Don’t skip the banana pudding for dessert—homemade and as classic as it gets.

Extra Tips or Bonuses

- Make a Half-Day of It: Lafayette has a quaint downtown area with a few shops and spots to explore before or after you eat. If you're already heading into Walker County, consider a short hike at nearby Rock Town Trail or check out the Pocket Recreation Area—it’s nature-heavy and peaceful.

- Portion Sizes: The servings here are generous, so if you’re not a big eater, consider splitting an order or coming hungry.

Final Thoughts

White Duck Taco’s Grown-Up Taco Bell Vibes and Frozen Cheerwine Margs Hit McCallie Ave

If you’ve ever wished Taco Bell was actually good, you’ll want to check out the new White Duck Taco Shop on McCallie Ave. It’s got the creative taco lineup of your fast-food dreams, but with fresh ingredients, cool architecture, and a grown-up vibe—including a frozen Cheerwine margarita that’s kind of too easy to love. I tried six tacos (the Bangkok Shrimp was the standout), plus the street corn salad and queso—both solid. The patio is spacious and shaded, there’s a grassy area for kids, and future plans include a brewery and live music stage. A great local spot for casual meals that feel a bit more fun.

White Duck Taco Shop in Chattanooga: Playful Tacos, a Frozen Cheerwine Margarita, and a Whole Lot of Local Charm

There’s a fresh flavor on McCallie Avenue that's quickly becoming a local favorite — White Duck Taco Shop has opened its Chattanooga location, bringing with it a globally-inspired menu, relaxed vibe, and food that’s both playful and seriously satisfying. Tucked between Missionary Ridge and downtown, this locally owned taco bar is the kind of spot you’ll want to revisit with friends, family, or coworkers — especially on a sunny afternoon when the patio is in full swing.

What makes it worth a visit? Think outside the standard Tex-Mex menu — here, tacos range from Chicken Tikka Masala to crispy Pork Belly, all served on fresh flour or corn tortillas with generous fillings and bold flavors. Pair that with a frozen Cheerwine margarita and a shady patio, and you’ve got something special.

The Experience

Walking up to White Duck Taco Shop, the first thing you’ll notice is the architecture — modern-industrial but welcoming, blending local design details with clean lines and plenty of outdoor space. The building has a breezy, open-plan feel, with a spacious patio out back complete with shaded seating and a grassy lawn area perfect for kids to stretch their legs.

Inside, the ordering process is simple: head to the counter, order a few tacos (they come out quick!), and grab a drink while you wait. If it’s your first visit, definitely chat with the friendly staff — they’re happy to explain the rotating taco options and suggest pairings. The menu pulls ingredients and flavors from around the world. Some of the standout options include:

- Bangkok Shrimp — light, creamy, with a bit of a citrus bite
- Pork Belly — rich and crispy, balanced with a fresh slaw
- Chicken Tikka Masala — crowd favorite with warm spices and tender chunks of chicken
- Buffalo Chicken — for those who love a little heat and vinegar
- Steak & Cheese — a comfort classic reimagined taco-style

Don’t skip the sides — the Street Corn Salad goes fast and for good reason. The Chips & Queso hit the table quickly, making it easy to snack while you wait for the main event.

Drinks range from local beers to non-alcoholic sodas, but the frozen Cheerwine margarita deserves a shoutout. Sweet, nostalgic, and surprisingly balanced, it might just be the sleeper hit of the drink list.

100 Ramen & Hibachi & Sushi Bar just opened by the Aloft Hotel in Hamilton Place- and they've got some cool grand opening deals I'm sharing below! There's a big menu with lots of Japanese variety, and it's a great mix of comfort food and healthy options (they’re even right next door to Crunch Fitness, so it’s basically balanced, right?).

Address: 2090 Hamilton Place Boulevard, Chattanooga, TN

My First Visit

I went in to give it a try, and here’s the rundown:

  • Shrimp Hibachi – fresh, sizzling, and loaded with flavor.
  • Gyoza appetizer – the perfect comfort bites
  • Chicken Katsu Donburi- not many places have this around town, I was a big fan!
  • Boba Tea – I love fruit boba tea!! And popping pearls! I got the mango, and it was great! And okay, confession: I’m usually not a milk tea person. But their ZangZang Boba Tea? Surprisingly good.
  • Tonkotsu Ramen – my personal favorite of the night. Rich, hearty, and exactly what you want in a bowl of ramen.
  • Sushi – beautifully crafted by Kevin, the sushi chef. Nothing here is pre-made, so yes, it may take a little longer if he’s busy- but the results are so worth it.

I got to talk to the owners and they told me they’re aiming to be a healthier, quick, intentional option while still giving you all the fun of a full ramen + hibachi + sushi + boba lineup.
