Vetopia Animal Health Opens in Chattanooga: A Family-Owned Veterinary “Utopia” for Pets and Their People

Chattanooga has a brand new kind of veterinary clinic, and it’s one that’s rethinking the entire experience for both pets and their parents. Vetopia Animal Health, located in Hixson, was designed with a clear vision: to create a true “utopia” for animals, owners, and the veterinary staff who care for them.

“Vetopia is this idea of a utopia for pets, people, and the people that work in the veterinary industry,” explains Dr. Bello, who co-founded the clinic with her husband Jerren.

Dr. Bello and her husband Jerren

From the beginning, the goal wasn’t just to build another vet office.

“It was always my dream to have a place where people could bring their pets and we could give them the care they deserve," said Bello. And what better city than Chattanooga to do it?”

A New Approach to Veterinary Care

One of the biggest ways Vetopia sets itself apart is by focusing on collaboration and transparency.

“Our biggest differentiator is we try to involve the pet owner as much as possible,” says Dr. Bello. “I talk them through what I’m seeing step by step, so they’re a part of it.”

This approach extends beyond the exam table.

“We wanted to create a space where it was calming. Animals felt secure. People felt like they had the space to feel whatever emotions they wanted to feel.”

Better Pet Care Through Better People Care

The clinic’s motto, “better pet care through better people care,” speaks to the heart of its mission.

“Better pet care through better people care means we can’t forget pets come with people- and if we don’t care for those people, we’re not doing them a service.”

That focus on people extends to Vetopia’s staff as well.

“I really wanted to create a place where people came to work and they absolutely loved what they did and they left feeling like they accomplished something great every day.”

When I visited the vet for the first time with Mailbox (my dog), I truly saw this mission played out. The employees love their job, I as a pet parent felt very cared for, and Mailbox honestly loves his visits to the vet!

The Experience for Pet Parents

From the moment Mailbox and I walked through Vetopia’s doors, I could tell this wasn’t going to feel like a typical vet visit (and I've been to many vets in Chattanooga!) I was greeted, offered complimentary coffee (and it was actually FIRE coffee- I really liked it as someone who's not in to a lot of coffee!), and was taken back to a themed waiting room.

Each exam room has its own unique destination-inspired theme, which immediately gave us a sense of calm. During Mailbox’s check-up, I noticed how different the process felt compared to other clinics. I was actually taken to the back and got a behind-the-scenes look at what Vets do!

"I think our biggest differentiators is we try to involve the pet owner as much as possible," Dr. Bello told me. "So I know a lot of people are like, 'oh, they took my dog to the back...' and nothing bad happens to your pet in the back, I promise, but I understand like as I've gotten older, and I have a kid, that there is this kind of 'mysteriousness' about what's going on back there, and why is it taking so long. And so the idea with Vetopia was, why don't we just have the owner be present for the appointment as much as possible? Not only so that they feel more comfortable and their pets feel more comfortable, but I think it's really important for people to see what we do behind the scenes, because I think that it gives more value to what we as an industry provide."

It was neat seeing firsthand the team caring for my sweet fur baby. And rather than rushing through, Dr. Bello carefully walked me through everything she was seeing. That level of transparency made me feel empowered and connected- like I was truly part of Mailbox’s care.

Vetopia has also invested in technology to make that collaboration seamless. Screens and tablets in the exam rooms allow pet parents to see diagnostics in real time.

And honestly? The vibe is just different. With cozy touches, a coffee machine, and music playing softly in the background, it feels nothing like a sterile, intimidating clinic.

“We want it to feel like you’re not at a hospital, but you’re just hanging out in your living room… It’s a really relaxed, upbeat vibe. Most of the time we have good tunes going on, so it’s just like a fun feel.”

Mailbox certainly picked up on that- instead of being anxious like he has been at other clinics, he wagged his way through the visit. It truly felt like a place designed for both pets and their people to feel comfortable.

Family-Owned, Not Corporate

At a time when many veterinary clinics are being bought by large corporations, Vetopia is proudly family-owned.

“Family owned was really important to us… a lot of hospitals are being bought by corporate entities, and people feel like they’re losing that family feel. We wanted this to be the opposite.”

Dr. Bello says building Vetopia with her husband has made the journey even more meaningful.

“At the end of it, being able to step back and the two of us know that we did this together- it just makes it that much sweeter.”

A Vision for the Future

Vetopia isn’t just focused on one clinic- it’s about becoming part of the community.

“My bigger vision for Vetopia is to be super involved in the community- community outreach, helping the pets of Chattanooga. One day maybe opening another location, but the goal is to support Chattanooga and the pets as much as we can.”

TLDR?

Dr. Bello sums it up best:

“The one thing I’d want Chattanooga to know about Vetopia is that we care as much about them as we do their pets. We want this to be a collaborative experience.”

With its people-first philosophy, calming environment, and family-owned approach, Vetopia is ready to become a true second home for Chattanooga’s pets and their parents.

Shayna's Favorites:

I (Shayna) have made it a Sunday tradition to stop by the market after church. It's such a great way to support Chattanooga small businesses and grab great products! My favorite booth is the 2 older ladies who set up right in the middle of the market and sell unique earrings on playing cards. I have gotten dozens of unique earrings from their booths over the years (drum earrings, star earrings, coca-cola earrings, candy earrings, boba earrings- you name it!) I also almost always grab a frozen lemonade (there's typically a booth at both the front entrance and back by the stage!)

Whether you're a local or a visitor, the Chattanooga Market is perfect for families looking for a leisurely outing, couples seeking a unique date spot, or tourists wanting to capture the essence of our city, this market welcomes everyone with open arms and endless charm!

A local’s guide to Krystal deals, secret ICEE hacks, and why this Chattanooga-born spot still hits the nostalgic lunch spot

Krystal has been a Chattanooga staple since the very beginning—literally. It all started right here, and now they’ve grown to over 270 locations across the country (with nine still in the area). I made a quick stop recently for a super affordable lunch and an ICEE—my favorite new trick is mixing all the flavors except Coke for a fun, fruity combo. If you love a good deal, their Krystalpalooza daily app promos are worth checking out, with rotating freebies and discounts every day of the week. It’s nostalgic, it’s easy on the wallet, and it’s open around the clock—perfect for a late-night bite or a quick grab on the go.

Your Guide to Krystal in Chattanooga: Daily Deals, Hidden Hacks, and a Hometown Favorite

Whether you're new to Chattanooga or you've lived here all your life, it’s always fun to be reminded that one of the South’s most iconic fast-food chains started right here in town. Krystal has been slinging burgers since 1932, when the very first location opened on 7th Street in downtown Chattanooga—and nearly a century later, it’s still serving up sliders, chili cheese pups, and ice-cold ICEEs to hungry crowds across the Southeast.

With nine locations in the Chattanooga area and a brand-new wave of specials through “Krystalpalooza,” there’s never been a better time to swing by for a nostalgic meal (or try their app-only deals if you're a regular).

The Experience

Krystal is all about classic, no-frills comfort food—small square burgers, thick milkshakes, and hot dogs done simply but satisfyingly. If you grew up around here, there’s a good chance you have memories of post-game fries, weekend breakfasts with your family, or late-night drive-thru runs with friends. These days, Krystal locations have a clean, retro-modern feel but still keep that quick, friendly vibe intact.

One highlight worth trying is a popular menu trick: mixing all the ICEE flavors (except Coke) into one refreshing, fruity slush. Surprisingly good and a fun one to try if you’re craving something sweet and cold.

The new Krystalpalooza daily deals offered through their mobile app make it even easier to explore the menu without spending much. It's a great way to snag a specific item each day, from free Glaze Bombs on Tuesdays to discounted Sackfuls on Saturdays.

What to Know Before You Go

Hours: Most Chattanooga Krystal locations are open 24/7, which is perfect if you're on the road late, working night shifts, or just craving breakfast-for-dinner.

Extra Tips or Bonuses

- Try the Krystal Kravings meals — they let you sample a little bit of everything (burgers, bombs, fries, pup) at one great combo price. Ideal for sharing or for when you just can’t decide.

- Most locations have drive-thru and indoor dining, and some offer delivery through third-party apps.

- Great for families on a budget or anyone who loves diner-style breakfast options in the morning.

- Don’t sleep on their Glaze Bombs—basically bite-sized glazed doughnut holes that are especially good warm.

Final Thoughts

Krystal is true Chattanooga history, and whether you’re going for the nostalgia or the deals, it’s a solid stop for a quick bite that won’t break the bank. It’s kid-friendly, college-budget approved, and still surprisingly satisfying even if it’s been a while since your last visit. If you’re local, rediscover an old favorite. If you're visiting, this is one of those regional fast food places with real roots and staying power.

Cesario’s Pizzeria in Rossville: A family-owned pizza spot with unique slices!

Just a quick 10-minute drive from downtown Chattanooga, Cesario's Pizzeria in Rossville, GA is serving up some seriously good, family-inspired pizza with a unique twist. The owners brought their Italian heritage to life with recipes passed down from their grandparents—and it shows. We tried out a killer lunch special (just $8 for a half Italian sandwich and tortellini salad), plus the half-and-half pizza combo of Forbidden Fruit and La Dolce Vita, which might be our new go-to. Add in a solid happy hour lineup and nostalgic scoops of ice cream, and it’s easy to see why this spot is worth the short drive. Cesario’s Pizzeria: A Family-Rooted Pizza Spot Just Minutes From Downtown Chattanooga

If you're willing to venture just 10 minutes south of downtown Chattanooga, you'll find Cesario’s Pizzeria- a welcoming neighborhood pizza joint with a strong family story and handcrafted menu that makes the drive across the Georgia border totally worth it. This spot blends traditional Italian family recipes with a modern twist, resulting in a menu that feels both comforting and new. Whether you're going for a laid-back lunch on the patio or a casual weeknight dinner, Cesario’s delivers in flavor, value, and charm.

The Experience

Cesario’s Pizzeria is located in Rossville, Georgia — just across the state line in Walker County. It’s a cozy, friendly space with indoor seating and a patio perfect for mild evenings. From the jump, you can tell this is a family-run business that puts care into everything they do. The décor is simple and inviting, keeping the focus on the food and the community feel.

The menu reflects generations of Italian-American cooking. The owners’ grandparents immigrated from Italy, and it shows — especially in dishes like the meatballs, which come from their great-grandmother’s original recipe. They're tender, flavorful, and simmered in a tomato sauce that tastes like it’s been perfected over time.

Pizza is the heart of the kitchen here, and Cesario’s has carved out their own unique style. One standout feature is their use of a "poolish" pre-ferment for the dough — a traditional technique that adds depth of flavor and a light, crisp texture to the crust. It makes their pies something special.

A fan favorite is the ability to do a half-and-half red sauce pizza — perfect for trying more of the menu in one go. The Forbidden Fruit (prosciutto, fig jam, gorgonzola) and La Dolce Vita (Italian sausage, sweet peppers, caramelized onion, and ricotta) combination is a strong recommendation from locals and first-timers alike.

If you’re stopping by for lunch, try their weekday special: a half Italian sandwich and tortellini salad for just $8. It’s a filling, tasty option if you're short on time but still want a solid meal.

They also have a small bar area with wine and rotating happy hour deals, plus classic soft-serve ice cream to round out the meal.
