Chatting with Chattanoogans: Is Chattanooga is the #1 City in Tennessee?
Is Chattanooga truly the best city in Tennessee? If you ask the residents, you'll likely get a resounding "yes!" Recently voted (in May 2024) the #1 city in Tennessee by U.S. News and World Report, Chattanooga boasts more than stunning views and historical landmarks. It's a vibrant city energetically blending outdoor adventure, culture, and community spirit, which I recently had the chance to explore in detail.
The Experience: A Day in the Life of Chattanooga
When visiting Chattanooga, it's impossible not to feel the sense of community and pride that radiates throughout the city. In this video, I stopped by the Chattanooga Chamber Leadership Graduation and mingled with and interviewed some of the local leaders who are shaping the city's future. Their passion and commitment reflected precisely why Chattanooga holds such a high regard.
While it was a unique day full of insightful conversations, the connections I witnessed paint a clear picture of why locals cherish this city. You don't just visit Chattanooga; you become a part of its community.
Chattanooga is often buzzing with activities, whether it’s events by the river or engaging community gatherings. The atmosphere here is lively and inviting, perfect for both solo travelers and families looking to explore.
What to Know Before You Go
If you're planning a visit, a few practical details will make your trip more enjoyable:
- Getting Around: Parking is often plentiful with several city lots, and the electric shuttle helps you navigate the downtown area easily.
- Visiting: Businesses and community events vary, but weekends bring out a bustle everywhere from the Chattanooga Market (Sundays) to bustling coffee shops.
- Always check specific venues for their hours and available events to maximize your time in the city.
Extra Tips
For a well-rounded trip, be sure to check out the Tennessee Aquarium or a stroll across the Walnut Street Bridge for breathtaking views. Consider staying nearby at the Edwin Hotel for a luxurious touch, and don’t miss grabbing a savory delight from Niedlov's or Main St Meats for a true taste of the local cuisine.
Every corner of Chattanooga has a story to tell, and there’s always something going on to dive into—like the Riverfront Nights concert series in the summer or a cozy café in the cooler months.
Final Thoughts
Chattanooga’s charm is infectious. It’s the type of place that appeals to everyone—from outdoor enthusiasts to culture buffs to friendly families. It’s no wonder that it’s top-rated in Tennessee. Whether you’re coming for the stunning scenery or the community-focused events, Chattanooga ensures you never leave without a smile.

If you’re looking to make the most of August in Chattanooga, you’re in luck — this month is packed with festivals, outdoor movies, vintage markets, and local traditions that bring out the best of summer in the Scenic City. Whether you're up for a beach movie night, catching a soccer match at Finley, or taking a weekend stroll at a roadside yard sale spanning six states (yes, really!), there’s something happening for every type of adventurer.
Here’s a breakdown of this month’s standout events and some helpful info to plan your weekends with ease.
The Experience
We’re heading into the last full month of summer, and Chattanooga doesn’t disappoint. From kid-friendly festivals to 21+ aquarium takeovers, August events strike the right balance of fun for families, couples, and solo explorers alike.
Start off strong with a beach screening of Sharknado at Chester Frost Park (Aug 2), a beach movie night where you can bring your towel or lawn chair and enjoy the chaos of flying sharks under the stars.
Then there’s the mega-popular Statemint Market (Aug 6–9) at The Signal — ideal for back-to-school shopping or finding something quirky and handmade from dozens of trendy, curated vendors.
Not into shopping? No worries. Vintage lovers should mark down Aug 16 for the city’s biggest vintage market at Finley Stadium. From retro band tees to old-school records and one-of-a-kind clothing pieces, it’s a treasure hunter’s dream.
You’ll also find multiple themed events at the Chattanooga Zoo this month — including a Pirates, Parrots, and Princesses Day on Aug 9 that’s perfect for younger kids and costume lovers.
And let’s not forget the legendary 127 Yard Sale (Aug 7–10), which runs right through Signal Mountain. Locals set up along the route with tables, tents, and truly everything from antiques to knick-knacks. If you love the thrill of a great find, this one’s for you.
To close it out, there’s Nooga Wing and Beer Week (Aug 25–31), packed with participating restaurants, drink deals, and — you guessed it — wings.

New Hamilton Place Hibachi + Sushi + Boba Spot! (& Grand Opening Deals!)
100 Ramen & Hibachi & Sushi Bar just opened by the Aloft Hotel in Hamilton Place- and they've got some cool grand opening deals I'm sharing below! There's a big menu with lots of Japanese variety, and it's a great mix of comfort food and healthy options (they’re even right next door to Crunch Fitness, so it’s basically balanced, right?).
Address: 2090 Hamilton Place Boulevard, Chattanooga, TN
My First Visit
I went in to give it a try, and here’s the rundown:
- Shrimp Hibachi – fresh, sizzling, and loaded with flavor.
- Gyoza appetizer – the perfect comfort bites
- Chicken Katsu Donburi- not many places have this around town, I was a big fan!
- Boba Tea – I love fruit boba tea!! And popping pearls! I got the mango, and it was great! And okay, confession: I’m usually not a milk tea person. But their ZangZang Boba Tea? Surprisingly good.
- Tonkotsu Ramen – my personal favorite of the night. Rich, hearty, and exactly what you want in a bowl of ramen.
- Sushi – beautifully crafted by Kevin, the sushi chef. Nothing here is pre-made, so yes, it may take a little longer if he’s busy- but the results are so worth it.
I got to talk to the owners and they told me they’re aiming to be a healthier, quick, intentional option while still giving you all the fun of a full ramen + hibachi + sushi + boba lineup.
